Dear America

Dear America,
I normally don’t get political. I try to steer away from it because politics causes separation and divides people-something I don’t like.
But right now, I have to say something because we just voted in the worst candidate for Presidency.
I have no problem with the Republican party, but I do have a problem with Mr. Trump.
In the past year, Mr. Trump has insulted, degraded, humiliated Mexicans, LGBTQ, Muslims, Immigrants, women, POC, and the list goes on.
I’m saying this because tonight before I went to bed I told my friend to stay safe. I am genuinely concerned that when I wake up in the morning something will happen.
This fear isn’t a new fear-it’s the fear of wearing a hijab and driving down the road, it’s the fear that I am a woman walking alone at night, it’s the fear that I’m an immigrant and may not belong in this country, it’s the fear that I am not like everyone else. But right now this fear is stronger than it has been before. Because right now we voted in a man who has made it okay to be a sexist, racist, misogynist. We have given the most prestigious title, the President of The United States of America who literally scares people.
Trump has inspired a lot in the last year. Today, I saw the culmination of it. On Twitter, I saw a man say “I can’t believe there’s people out there who think they should be treated, fair and equal…um wake up and grow a pair ya baby”.  This man’s feed is inundated with other things of the same idea, and I can assure you that man is not the only one. And now that Donald Trump is going to the next POTUS it’s okay for people to publicize such a racist remark. Trump strikes a fear in people, and inspires others to go out and do the same as him.
Some of you may not understand what I’m saying, and some of you won’t try to understand. But please try to understand. This man isn’t a change in the government, he’s not going to make anything better. He’s taking this going back. And the change we see in the next four years might not be the change you wanted to see.
And to others- please stay safe. We will fight against all the discrimination because this land is your land and this land is my land.

Sincerely,

            A scared American.
